Comment below is incorrect- Prius does not use lead acid battery for starter. Actually, it has no starter motor - that job is done by one of two high voltage drive motors (yes, two). Another frequent mis-statement is that Prius has a CVT. It does not; it actually has no variable gearing at all. It is a revolutionary and ingenius design.

As much as I agree that we must reduce our ecological footprint. Hybrid cars are merely a solution. Do they reduce pollution while driving them. But their materials, manufacturing processes and recycling is a whole ecological mess. Go read about product lifecycle management (PLM) and you'll see that these cars are not as green as you would think.

@FatPigCypris The word on the street is incorrect. I did a little research on the matter, the article you refer to was posted in 2007 by a Hybrid hater who misinterpreted another article, which has now been removed. The original was but was taken down because it confused people. The plant had been in business for a while and the pollution began WAY before Toyota.

Word on the street is that the factory that makes the batteries for the Prius has spread sulfur dioxide across northern Ontario. It has been noted that the area around the plant has been compared to Mars as no plants or trees will grow around it.

I understand how you are environmentally conscious, but you might want to look at how much damage you are doing to the planet by buying new cars every 3 years. Why don't you just save the environment more and keep your old car? I have a 1991 Honda CRX HF that gets over 60 mpgs on the freeway. Instead of buying new cars that damage the planet simply by manufacturing them, try instead to keep your old car and drive it longer.

@wolfattak if you don't want to look stupid, please do some research about the environmental damage from the traditional lead-acid batteries.

@typevolcom um...how many Celebrities own a Prius. Is it really too hard to believe his shilling for a product would buy anyway.
