Here is another video showing a very rare long hood forward run on the NS P-Line Through Alexander City, AL.

  • In Saint Louis they ran a lot of trains with that type of locomotive. That is a nice catch. NS is the only road I know of to have ditch lights in both the front and back of their locomotives.

  • And what you said is the point Wolfman, on this type of loco, there is no "back". Both ends are the front. I LOVE that!

  • That NS high hood gp38 needs repainted.

  • Union Pacific has rear ditch ligts on their GP38s, GP40s, GP50s, and GP60's.

  • Nice video!

  • Cool man! It would have looked cooler if they would have been leading with 7005 LHF. Just something about the high short hood running LHF. 5*s

  • Great video!

  • good job here man

  • Why do you say locomotives pull poorly in reverse..that is long hood forward for most? These GP59's are set up as "long hood forward" anyway. Im an engineer for NS and have run these quite a bit. The only "problem" is vision but locomotives run fine in either direction. Almost all of the engines for NS built before or during the 90's were long hood fwd setup. This includes GP50's, 59's, 60's...SD60... and the Dash8-40B and C39-8 from GE.

  • These locomotives pull fine in either direction. Was the CSX engine by itself or in a consist? If by itself no wonder it was struggling!!

  • **NOTE**...the third unit is a GP50.

  • NOTE** the third unit is a GP50.
