B2's were developed in the 80s with first delivery in the early 90's. These planes have been in service for over 15 years, and this is the first one to crash, and that's a failure?? A bomber that flies inherently dangerous missions, with only one crash in 15 years? Failure? Are you joking? And your "next plane" was built over 20 years ago: B2 design is 80's era. And 1.4 billion on a bomber that will last 15 years (&counting) and never get shot down sounds like a bargain to me!

But this airplane was built as an indefensible threat. At the time the technology was produced and the airplanes were built and fielded, our enemies worldwide had no defense against these weapons systems. @mdoggle 1) 1.4 billion on a bomber, no matter how you look at it, is NOT a bargain.

2) 15 years of service is not a long time but I also doubt we'll see any of these B2 getting shut down because there are no serious wars so they could last for 50 years if not more.

3) there ware only 21 made. One crashed .. thats almost 5% of the total built. There are little over 1400 747s in total out of which less than 50 ware completely destroyed. Thats less than 4% of the grand total of 747s.
