Do you think of yourself as a racist? Chances are no, That doesn't mean you don't have latent racism. Nicholas Kristof wrote a piece in the NY Times that really helps to explain it.

"Rather, most of the votes that Mr. Obama actually loses belong to well-meaning whites who believe in racial equality and have no objection to electing a black person as president — yet who discriminate unconsciously."

The cure? Out yourself when you have a racist thought, even if it's embarrassing. It helps I think to flush up those legacy thoughts that have been passed down from generation to generation, just like, "put a coat on or you'll catch a cold!" Paying attention and breaking the habit - that does work. Distributed by Tubemogul.

  • Lanikai beach near the River Mouth where as a Child we used to catch fish and Samoan crabs in the river. the River is now Poluted , and NOT many Hawaiians can afford to live in lanikai now. she is talking from the Perspective of a caucasian. Keep in Mind Hawaiians experience Racism daily in their Own Home land. Its My hope this Woman gets involved in the FREE Hawaii Movement .. the reason is. it was Racist that lied to Over throw the Country of The Kingdom, correct the wrongs to make right

  • Mahalo for your comment Leilani and thanks for watching. The pollution in the river mouth comes and goes, and I actually don't live in Lanikai myself either. I support all being being free - sometimes that means letting go of what was to make a better now. I don't know how to correct the wrongs of the past though I have compassion for the pain that was felt then.

Today is a new day and building bridges with each other we can remake the world from a new vision.

  • Your caucasian guess is accurate. :-)

Locally, I don't experience it much, not because it isn't here - it is - but I keep my mind and heart pointed in other directions as much as possible. Since I accept it, it doesn't seem to bother me. Though reading the comments in local papers is not for the faint of heart!

  • @PeaceProfit - thank you for all of your thoughtful comments on our videos.

@ProtoCosmos - you have a good point, though I think the lable applies regardless of whether one's intent is malicious or not. There is still prejudice to be rooted out, and claiming one's unconscious reflexive bias is a great start IMO!

  • hopefully 100-200 years from now racism will cease to exist on this planet. each generation is getting better, younger people are starting not to care about race anymore, ive seen it, younger people "get it" and religion is starting phase away with the younger kids as well.

  • @productgeneric Thanks for commenting. Sometimes "worrying" about something is a stepping stone to a more open mind. In any case, our short videos are not expected to solve things, but to add something positive to the conversation over time.

  • Only white people worry about being racist.

  • I see you only mention White and black, But why don't you mention the off the chart Racism in Hawaii... Yep... Thats what I thought,, Your vid is was just a race card play by you, for Obama,, How weak of you..

  • I'm 52.I love the way you look, dress, and think. You should be the poster child for what it means to age gracefully.

  • I'm not sure that what you're describing is Racism.
