Kansas Thunderstorms, HD version

HD UPDATE: Since I've had 74K views of this video as a low res file uploaded back when youtube didn't accept HD files, I figured it was time to dig out the old premiere pro project and re-render this video for an HD version update. It was a stretch to find all the original files to redo this, but thankfully I archived it in a semi-easy to find location. :)

I shot this with my HD camcorder June 10th, 2007 at 1AM. The video is mostly looking Northeast at the radio towers West of Maize, KS. The intense lightening strikes on the towers start at 3:13 into the video. The first few minutes has great thunder claps and cloud to cloud. Make sure you crank up your speakers or listen through headphones!

Can you describe the sound when you filmed? Much higher than the video?

@masonimati The "Boom"? I'd say it was equivalent to what you hear on the video...if you turn your speakers all the way up and have a killer subwoofer! It literally felt like someone smacked me in the chest with the palm of their hand! I was standing under the overhang of my roof in my backyard and it made me think I didn't need to be out there! I captured another of these thunder crashes with my iphone while videoing (all I had) a hail storm. I guess I should post it sometime... :)

@MissWWE20 You have to have a camera that takes really good Footage and catches light in a fast manner. Otherwise you are not using the right kind of camera.

@MegaFred55 Lightning generally hits one of the higher points wherever it goes. If you go in a field that is straight, it goes absolutely hay-wire. Now you go in a low point, it wont hit the ground or trees unless it is really strong lightning. Other times, if you are in a flat field with a small hill in there with some trees, it will hit the HIGHEST point and almost consistent random points.

I have witnessed so many different types of storms where i live. I Would even take footages, and delete them later. BAD BAD IDEA to delete them later!! But anyway i have a dozen i have from recent. But i will never ever show them due to the fact they are only within 30 seconds long. I love storms, and there were a few times i barely made it back in my house alive.

Lighting storms are great to experience, it is like God is reminding you that he is still around, it is just a good feeling. It happens every year and I make a point of watching the show. I just never seen it on film. Thank you. And of course, I liked the idea that it was moving away from where I was. I , at one time, was living in the middle of a field experiencing it , in a small trailer , it scared the shit out me.
