My great-grandfather was a coalminer w/ Pocahontas Colleries and left the mines because he was drafted into service in WWI. The family lived in Premier and Brown's Creek. My grandfather went to Welch HS and left Premier for WWII. My great-grandfather is buried in Roderfield Cem.

The U-M-W-A Killed the coalmining jobs in McDowell County. Poor McDowell County.

Thanks, Jeffrey, this is interesting to see - I haven't been there in 20 years (I grew up in Chas, my mother grew up in Welch). Do you live in Welch?
Just before the National Guard Armory there used to be an old Pancake House restaurant converted to a duplex dwelling. Is that still there?

I used to live in Iaeger. I was on my way to my Grandmother's house. She still lives at Iaeger.
I'll have to be on the lookout for that building.
