The Moshi Moshi series were part of artist Rui Barros works (2003-2005).
Interested in a pop approach to the Japanese classical art and the contemporary Manga. Features Samurais and Gueishas confronted in the modern world.
" I acquired, in London, a pair of unsual vintage Japanese paddles -called Haigotas- used in New Year's festivities for protection. These were cunningly hancrafted cut outs in padded fabrics, superimposed to create a vaguely trdimensional figure of a woman, a Godess, complete with geisha hair and accessoires! A remarkable exquisite effect...
I decided to work from that concept onwords, using a stylized technique similar to the one used for silkscreens."
Works are in acrylics on canvas.
