This is my video demo of how to use a menstrual cup, and a wee discussion of the issues involved.

I have written a full review of this product at my blog, The Scottish Boomerang, a travel, legal, and current affairs blog. You can find this at www DOT scottishboomerang DOT com.

  • Ooooh, avoid the antibacterial stuff. You do *not* want that in your hoo-hah.

  • @lorelome you are right - I dont use the cleaning wipes you clean surfaces with, I mean non-scented baby wipes which are ok for the skin.

  • does this hurt? i tried a tampon last night for the first time and it hurt like crap, plus, im scared of tss. but im definetly trying this (:

  • @BeautifullyBubbly It can be uncomfortable until you get the hang of inserting it. Tampons are bad for you, dry you out, have dioxins and other nasties in them - the cup is made from medical grade silcone and does not harbour germs as long as you clean it with hot soapy water every day.

  • @noisees they should work perfectly fine, but it may take a little more work in the beginning. i started using one @ 13 and it work jsut fine, but i have never had a hymen... so.. yeah

  • @ShineOner1 Maybe you could talk to your doctor at your next annual checkup and ask him/her to talk to your mother about internal protection.

  • @scottishboomerang Yes, they're OK for skin and the outer area around your vagina (if you personally aren't worried about some of the new research on long-term use of antibacterial substances), but not for inside your vagina. There's a very delicate balance of pH and bacteria and so forth that shouldn't be disturbed with foreign substances unless a doctor recommends it; otherwise, you're opening yourself to infection.

  • @CoolBeanSquadron thank you (: i wasnt sure and i was thinking about using it.

  • @shineroner1 you can buy a cup now from mainstream drugstores (eg Boots, in the UK) or order one online. Your local teen health clinic may be able to order one for you. Why not get some washable pads as well for use at night with the cup for extra security.

  • @ShineOner1 If you use internal products, you can use a menstrual cup - they are small and very discrete and you can hide them easily. Nothing can take away your virginity except sex with a man, but in many cultures having an intact hymen on your wedding night is important. It's an ancient damaging patriarchal idea linked with family honour, but until the attitudes change we have to acknowledge many women live with this cultural reality.

  • My mom is old school and she thinos tampons will take my virginity I use them behind her back so I know I can put a cup in so, how can I buy one behind her back. I want to use one for over night because I always leak

  • @BabyKates95 its the same idea you empty in before you go to bed and again first thing when you wake up
