"What is the importance of belief in God if it is not going to affect our lives." Huge leap in logic here. Even if you accept that there is a God, why would you think he wants anything of you? Wouldn't the ultimate being be beyond any needs or wants? Certainly beyond anything any humans could provide. It's just that the descriptions of God in the Abrahamic faiths make him seem so needy. That to me is a clear indication of human artifice.

@MsMrNoface God is not in need of anything, but it is our worship that is due to Him, that pleases Him. If we fulfill the purpose of our existence, then it is us who benefit with Guidance in this life, and with the eternal Home that God has prepared for His servants in the afterlife.

I think I even understand why many people worship God, and it's not because people recognize that God is deserving of their praise, it's because people are scared, they want to feel there is some order and reason in the Universe, and they like to belong to something that makes them feel special.
