I am sorry for the quality of this film clip
Hovie Lister at the piano.

I think this combo can't be beat and it also shows that all you need are 4 good voices and piano.....no need for a 50 piece orchestra to be successful.

Filmed in 1985 in Owosso, Michigan's Lebowsky Theatre. J.D. Sumner and the Master's V including Hovie Lister at the piano, James Blackwood, Steve Warren and Jake Hess.

Now sing along with the Master's V ...

Goodbye World Goodbye

I've told all my troubles goodbye,
Goodbye to each tear and each sigh.
This world where I roam cannot be my home,
I'm bound for that home in the sky.
I walk and I talk with my Lord,
I feast every day on His word,
Heaven is near and I can't stay here
Goodbye world, goodbye.

Now don't you weep for me when I'm gone
For I won't have to leave here alone.
And when I hear that last trumpet sound
My feet won't stay on the ground.
I'm gonna rise with a shout, gonna fly,
Gonna rise with my Lord in the sky.
Heaven is near and I can't stay here,
Goodbye world, goodbye.

I won't have the blues anymore
When I step across to that shore.
And I'll never pine for I'll leave behind
My heartaches and cares ever more.
A day maybe two then goodbye,
Goodbye to each sorrow and sigh.
Heaven is near and I can't stay here,
Goodbye world, goodbye.

  • I got to see the Masters V one time in the mid-1980's. Unfortunately they had to perform as a trio that night because JD had just had a bunch of teeth pulled. They were still great to see Jake and James live for the first time ever.

  • whats the name of the first song they sing?

  • @DavidM1337 The title is How About Your Heart

  • What is the name of the first song? Anyone?

  • Thanks for the video. Love Jake in this.

  • Wow!! Sure I would love to see this in better quality, but am glad to see this than nothing. What would I give to be on front row? Thank you much!!!!

  • Sumner typically hit an A flat below low C on this song and even though the ending isn't really clear a double Low C would not be the right note for him to be in key with the others.

  • I liked the video, much thanks. Steve Warren is still in business.

  • Holy Moses! J.D. totally owned the end of that song with that amazing "Double-Low C". That man never ran outta low notes! R.I.P. Sumner!
