@osu67 You will find strikingly similar ballistics between 7.62mm (.308) and .30 caliber (.30-06) thus further increasing the US troops' advantage on the battlefield. Now, the USMC and Army could send three times as many rounds downrange, with the same ballistic output as the M1 Garand. The M-14 met the government's demands and proved just as reliable as the M1, until it's replacement by the M16A piece of junk in 1964. My uncle refused to use anything but the M-14 in Vietnam.
@osu67 That was actually an early development version of the Garand. The top-loading feature allowed troops to carry more ammo without lugging around magazines, rather bandoliers. It was also quicker to reload, which gave the US even more of an advantage on the battlefield. The M-14 was adopted because Uncle Sam wanted a full-auto version on a cheap budget. The bottom-loading magazine was then adopted to better support full-auto. 7.62mm replaced .30 caliber due to weight and cost.

LOL, at 5:14 it shows a M14 when they have been talking about the M1 and continue to do so.
