Hello Friends,
It's a good time to take stock after a busy, and successful, start to 2010 for San Antonio. In the last couple of months, we've added new jobs, ramped up key initiatives involving green job training and education, and announced a favorable settlement on behalf of ratepayers like you in a lawsuit involving the proposed expansion of CPS Energy's nuclear energy portfolio. The resolution of that case means we are protected from future cost overruns and that we should receive about $1 billion in value for our original $380 million investment.
I am also happy to report the City Council recently approved two innovative projects: the Mission Verde Center @ Cooper and the College Access and Opportunity Center. The projects will help us fulfill our mission to turn the city into a leader in sustainability and green jobs, and to make college more attainable for more San Antonians.
Finally, insurance giant Allstate Corp. announced it is bringing 600 new jobs to our city, further proof that San Antonio's economy continues to outperform many other American cities.
Until we see each other again,
Mayor Julián Castro
