how long can you stay in shapeshift mode? and dose it cost anything to shapeshift? i mean anything other then mana or whatever they called the energy bar~~

You can stay in a form as long as you want or until you are hit. In general the spells and abilities do cost nothing in this game.
There is nothing like mana or energy that you need to spend for attacking.

Does that Raccoon body slot make you run any faster than normal? Or is it purely for avoiding mobs?

It doesn't give you any speed. It seems that it is just for avoind mobs at the moment.
Every form can give you a buff but the one from that wolf just sucks.
