Written by Shetland fiddler Tom Anderson, I first heard this tune played by Kathryn Tickell on Northumbrian Smallpipes. I adapted a harmony part I found somewhere to the left side of the concertina, and also hold down a drone key with my left pinkie for the whole second half of the video.
Here's what Tom wrote about the tune in his book Ringing Strings:
"I was coming out of Eshaness in late January, 1969, the time was after 11 pm and as I looked back at the top of the hill leading out of the district I saw so few lights compared to what I remembered when I was young. As I watched, the lights started going out one by one. That, coupled with the recent death of my late wife, made me think of the old word 'Slockit,' meaning, a light that has gone out, and I think that was what inspired the tune."
That was great - thank you. You are a great concertina player. By the way, are you wearing a disguise?

Wow this was great! I'm looking to pick up a Concertina but I wonder is it harder to learn than a button accordion or piano accordion? Also would it be possible to learn songs like 'La valse De Amelie' on a concertina?

Thanks to you I am really considering the purchase of an Elise concertina. Would you recomend this or should I save my money for a Stagi duet? I don't see where all those notes on the higher end would be really that needed.

Gorgeous. Sounds like a lot of practice hours very fruitfully spent. Do your recordings reflect the tone of the concertina or do you doctor them? It seems to have more fullness than some concertina reeded instruments have, hope mine sounds like that when I get it. Looking forward to the next posting!
