i was a bit naive and 17 when this aired and never watched this show. it's pretty incredible, i have to say? what was the big controversy behind it, did the conservative base make a huge deal of it as i assume they would?

I haven't watched this in years and I still get choked up when Ellen laments about why does she find it so hard to just say the truth. And then she says it! I remember cheering that moment with a bunch of other GLBT and friends. Wow!! What a historic and truly memorable moment!!! Anyone else get a little misty eyed? Thanks so much for this fabulous post!
