Stop the Unconstitutional Washington, DC Voting Representation from passing--the D.C. Power Grab.

The Truth: The District of Columbia was created as a neutral territory to be the nation's capital, to prevent our capital from being owned by any state. Because only states are allowed Congressional representatives and Senators in the Constitution, it is absolutely unconstitutional to award the Capital a full voting seat in Congress. In 2007, the bill to award exactly such an unconstitutional seat passed in House but was defeated in the Senate. The liberal Congress tried and failed (for the present) to force through the power grab for Barack Obama to sign. DC power grab supporters were appauled that Americans got an amendment added to partially protect the 2nd amentment rights of DC residents, offering the left a terrible choice!

The left knows they will have one more left-wing vote in Congress to force through more Socialist legislation if they can pass this.

To buy GOP votes, Utah would be temporarily given an additional House seat (which may not necessarily be won by the GOP) but which will likely end up after reapportionment in 2010 as an extra seat for primarily illegal immigrants in California after the next Census.

Republicans: you are being suckered, do not violate the Constitution because of the temporary Utah seat. The extra seat will not stay with Utah or the GOP, but the DC seat will last forever as will the record of your vote to violate the Constitution.

The bill numbers are HR 157, S. 160, S.J. Res. 11.
The official title is: District of Columbia House Voting Rights Act of 2009

  • I think the Constitution should not be violated. If D.C. wants representation in either House of the Congress, it must be retroceded to Maryland, granted statehood (State of New Columbia), or a Constitutional amendment doing so must be adopted (passed the Congress on August 22, 1978, but failed to be ratified by the States by August 22, 1985).

This legislation, if passed, would be a cruel joke. How would D.C. residents feel when the Supreme Court declared such a law Unconstitutional?

  • The Constitution clearly states that only "the People of the several States" have voting representation in the House. The Democrats once again want to ignore the Constitution when inconvenient to them.

  • Article 1 - Section 8

"To EXERCISE EXCLUSIVE LEGISLATION IN ALL CASES WHATSOEVER, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States"

why the hell would someone want to live there they can pass any law they want....?

  • And cogress only has legal constitutional authority in those same places, district of columbia, forts etc....federal property in other words.

Congress has no right to legislate in the states affairs.

  • So you think that it is perfectly fair that people living in Washington D.C. have no vote in Congress?
