I think the host coment that the alternitive to Chinas crackdown might be a dictatorship under religious (buddist) rule is unfounded. ( Thought I don't think it was his own.) In history we have seen that rulers in smaller, less powerful countries with dictators are instead supported and propped up by forgien powers when it is in that forgien powers interest. The goal of dictatorship is power...not to preserve a way of life.

The Han Chinese have a number of cases of political injustice to address, from the occupation of a sovereign people such as the Tibetan, to the repression and exploitation they administer on ethnic and cultural minorities or even their fellow countrymen. And by the looks of it, there is very little motivation for progress, when they can rather make financial gains.
We shouldn't be conducting business with them at all under the current circumstances.
