Representatives from Broadview University start the panell "Careers and Education in the Entertainment Arts for Manga and Anime Arts." The Amazing Rando discusses his career in the entertainment arts. The school was founded to focus on entertainment industry. Architecture can be applied to set design. There is a wide variety of fields in the entertainment industry.
Career in animation starts with ability to draw. One can learn skills on job, but going to school gives good portfolio in only 4 years. What should be in a portfolio. It should show development of creativity.
Writing story for video game is different from code programming. As with writing any story, it involves story and character development. This may involve lots of research.
One may discover that s/he has other talents that they can use better elsewhere such as sculpture or costumes design or even go from animator to illustrating medical journals.
Portfolio should have several "wow" pieces.
Computer graphics design involves training is drawing, sculpting. http://sketchup.google.com/ is a good free graphics program.
Comics program is very old school and then scanned. There is still room for cel animation and Claymation. Comics are in a cinematic language. Again, one might find they are good at something they never knew they were, such as write screenplays instead of comics. Most current Japanese live-action movies and TV shows are based off of manga and/or anime.
Costume designers should have sketches and photos of work. Broadview is planning of adding costume design program.
