On December 7, 1941, the Empire of Japan attacked the United States Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, island of Oahu, Hawaii, beginning the U.S. involvement in World War Two.

During the approximately 90 minutes of the attack, nearly 2,400 people were killed (mostly U.S. Navy, but many civilians and others as well). Nearly half of those, approximately 1,100, were killed on board the USS Arizona, which still lies below the waters of Pearl Harbor.

This video, shot in Pearl Harbor on December 7 and 8, 2010, includes footage of the ceremony marking the 69th anniversary of the attack and dedication of a new Visitor's Center, a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial, and a tour of the USS Missouri, where the Japanese surrender was signed on September 2, 1945.

Also featured is an interview with Edwin Schuler, a Pearl Harbor survivor and veteran, the 9/11 Ground Zero flag being set out for display during the anniversary ceremony, and some period newsreel footage.

Pearl Harbor is part of the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument.

  • @Furnifur A sovereign state was stolen from Queen Liliuokalani and occupied by armed forces which refused to allow the inhabitants democratic rights. Who is this we of which you speak. Remember the Maine - Remeber the Lusitania - Remember Pearl Harbor - Remember the Gulf of Tonkin - every good myth has some basis in fact. I am sad for thousands who lost their lives and were injured.

  • @CrappyCartoons were we not bombed on Dec 7 @ Pearl harbor?? When did this horrible day wind up in the realm of MythBusting?

  • Every good myth has some basis in fact....
