  • Merry Christmas to all Ramoniacs and of course to the great Joey Ramone.

  • @Boltzavolts423956 Spector also produced John Lennon's/The Plastic Ono Band's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," which has become a staple of radio at Christmas time.

So lots of Jewish involvement with the modern Christian traditions of Christmas.

I just wonder if the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison, Corcoran (where Spector produces only license plates these days) serves Egg Nog?

  • @Boltzavolts423956 And the record many say is the best rock & roll Christmas album ever recorded, "A Christmas Gift For You From Philles Records" (later "From Phil Spector") was produced by Harvey Phillip "Phil" Spector. It is Spetor's production of The Crystals version of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" that Bruce Springsteen basically plays.

And it is the "ring-a-ling-a-ling-a-ding-dong-ding" arrangement of The Ronettes' "Sleigh Ride" that is more familar to many people.

  • @Boltzavolts423956 And most relevantly of all, this very cover Joey Ramone is singing here was written by Ellie Greenwich, Jeff Barry, and Phil Spector, all three Jews.

  • @Boltzavolts423956 Look up the late music composer Johnny Marks on Wikipedia sometime. Marks was a Jew. But you may be surprised how many Christmas songs ("Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer," for one) he wrote.

To put it bluntly, if it weren't for Jews, Christmas wouldn't be as much fun for Christians as it has become, just a low-key religious observance like Palm Sunday or some such.

Besides, I don't think one has to be religious at all to like alll the pretty lights and Christmas music.

  • @Boltzavolts423956 Also, since many Jews were of the merchant class, in retail, etc., many owners of the original big department stores (including, originally, I think, Macy's--the very center of "Miracle On 34th Street"), they practically invented Christmas shopping in America, anyway.

  • @Boltzavolts423956 Also, many families have inter-faith parents of Christian and Jewish religions, just as some are of Catholic and Protestant (two, different denominations of Christianity). So as to not have their children feel left out of the holiday celebrations of a majority, such families may celebrate Christmas AND Hanukkah, offering the best of both cultures.

  • @Boltzavolts423956 Many Jews celebrate Christmas the way many people celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, and/or The Fourth Of July (Independence Day) in America. And because it's a holiday to spend with the family and/or with friends, eat a meal together, share gifts etc.

It's more about Santa Claus, Rudolph, Frosty The Snowman, etc., than about Jesus Christ, if you catch my drift. Even for many so-called Christians, the religious aspect of Christmas has been downplayed in modern times.

  • @Boltzavolts423956 No, he didn't convert, but it doesn't matter. Irving Berlin was also Jewish, it didn't stop him from writing 'White Christmas'.

  • @SEAN1983PHEANIS And islam combined! Joey was his own religion
