On October 1, 2011, 700+ peaceful protesters were arrested while on a march across the Brooklyn Bridge.

According to the AP: More than 700 protesters demonstrating against corporate greed, global warming and social inequality, among other grievances, were arrested Saturday after they swarmed the Brooklyn Bridge and shut down a lane of traffic for several hours in a tense confrontation with police.

The group Occupy Wall Street has been camped out in a plaza in Manhattan's Financial District for nearly two weeks staging various marches, and had orchestrated an impromptu trek to Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon. They walked in thick rows on the sidewalk up to the bridge, where some demonstrators spilled onto the roadway after being told to stay on the pedestrian pathway, police said.

  • we really scare them when our fear melts away

  • they legislated our rights away while we weren't looking

  • why didnt you guys charge the police all of you wtf

  • @opsecwarning We didn't go on the bridge to block it. We went on the bridge to cross it. There were thousands of us, it would have been more disruptive for us to funnel onto the narrow walkway. It ended up being even more disruptive because the police kept us there for hours. I do not attack my country, I love my country, and I don't need to learn about it because I know it. I live here, I know its history, I'm an American and proud.

  • keep up the fight against these corporations people, the hole world is watching

  • @AllieIsBored You blocked a bridge. Stay on the sidewalk. Democracy leads to Fascism. Ask Hitler, Mouslini, Mao, Stalin, or Pol-Pot. This is why I'm glad I live in a Republic. Learn about your country before attacking it.

  • It's a crime to block a through way.

  • Blocking a main passageway for traffic is disruptive, and therefore, not protected by the right to peacefully assemble.
