On Saturday March 12 a routine ACCX train passed by the Ashford Park neighborhood in Brookhaven. The train spewed sparks due to a lack of water in the train's system to dampen the sparks, thus resulting in a mile stretch of brush fires near Brookhaven MARTA station.
"There were no reports of delays of any MARTA rail service." -FOX 5

As can be seen in the film the brush fires elevated, spreading onto a fence and into the backyards of adjacent homes. In two places the fire came within 5 feet of lighting a back porch on fire. The film simply shows one section of the stretched out fire fight, for neighbors were battling similar fires further down the tracks in both directions.

POST Brookhaven apartments were prone to fire damage as can be seen about halfway through the video. Explosions and forest fires were on track to happen (no pun intended), but the community stepped forward.

  • Great job with the video Chris!

  • Looked a lot smaller @ 2500ft in the pattern, had no idea it was that bad.

  • This is one amazing neighborhood. I've lived in the cul de sac for 11 years and all my neighbors are really great folks. Thanks Christopher, for being the chronicler of a frightening event that we will never forget.

  • Well put together.

  • Awesome production, Christopher! (I liked the last few seconds with the sounds of fire crackling and fire truck sirens. Nice ending!)

I live in Ashford Park (Clairmont / PDK side) and heard the sirens when this happened. Saw the later TV news report, but actually had no idea that the fire was this bad! The fact that neighbors pulled together to take action is so inspiring! Kudos to all!! :)
