actually ....if you watch the concert dvd from gainsville fla, youll see hes in standard tuning with a capo in the 1st fret ......playing these same chords ...sorry .......you tune up a step .......check it out

The whole point is that the guitar is PURPOSELY tuned down, in a different key.
He doesn't need a capo because the guitar is tuned the way he wants it.

check out the vid by Alvarado8076 that this was a reply to.
And read the video info. It's in a different key than Petty's original album release. The guitar is NOT in standard tuning.

it is in standard tuning its just hes not doing it in the right place.
