Recording of a online chat I had with kodak support over my Kodak v1253 taking a long time to startup, over 10 seconds, which is an eternity to wait for a camera to turn on. Their conclusion? Buy a Kodak brand memory card. At the end of the review I test the SDHC card and it reads at 12mB/sec, a Class 4 based on the write speed, which was very respectable when the camera came out in 2007 so it's not the memory card.
It's still a good camera for the price, 12mp and HD 1280x720 video for less than $100, but the slow startup is very annoying, can't just turn on and snap some photos and turn it off, have to plan for photographs and I have missed a lot of special moments because they were over by the time the camera started. Recently I've had to start carrying two digital cameras, the Kodak for HD video and a old 4mp Sony DSC-L1 for photos because it starts in one second.
UPDATE: turns out the memory card was too slow. Bought a Class 6 memory card and it works fine.
