Cor, what an ugly sky: could be the underside of a shelf cloud. That was our sky, June 19, this year. Nice capture! Hear Dawin gets some mad storms.

Nice clouds!!
That storm had already died in your video, What you see in this clip is the decaying sheft cloud and outflow of a former multicell squall line thunderstorm, it would of looked very impressive about 60km inland prior to reaching Nightcliff :)

hey everyone - thanks for the coments and metereological info - much appreciated! this was my first trip to darwin and as you can see i didn't have much of an idea about squall lines and sheft clouds ;)
i live in singapore so it's not like we don't "see" huge monsoonal multicell thunderstorms, it's just that we rarely get to view the "big sky" versions of them, so it can be a bit hard to get the overall picture.
definitely looking forward to stopping off in darwin again! soon.
