I like your matter-of-fact instruction. I clean mine the same way except, I start with swabbing the foot from the distal end and pushing through to the proximal end. Then I move to the body and do the same thing--starting at the foot tenon and moving up in the direction of where the head joint is. That way, I keep the driest parts dry rather than moving the moisture around. I must have read this somewhere because I don't give that much thought to anything. What do you think about it?
