A very brief desciption of my fish tanks and their filtration systems.
These tanks are not currently on stands due to a weight issue in my 2nd foor apartment. I will have them set up higher when I move out in a couple of months. I am also in the process of selling/moving fish around. I don't plan on keeping an adult flowerhorn in a 30 gallon tank for life (its way too small of a tank).
I run these filters with cheap media that I can easily replace. Polyester pillow stuffing makes excellent mechanical filter media and runs for $3.50 for a years supply. Nylon scrubbies make excellent biological filter media (they have a higher surface area than fluval ceramics and eheim bio balls) and can be found at the dollar store (usually 2 scrubbies for a buck). My 90 gallon tank has a 300 watt heater, my 55 has a 200 watt and my 30 has a 100 watt. The water is changed 1/3 of the way every week or two.
Lots of filter..haha..cool..

Have you been locked away for fish tank filter ocd?

so for a 90 gallon you have filtration for around 545 gallon, 30 gallon tank running 140 gallon filtration and 55 gallon running 295 gallon filtration, so in tottal 175 gallons of water using filtration for 980 gallon so just over 5 times wat you need with barely enough fish for the 90 gallon

If you change 1/3 of the water every week why do you use that much filtration per tank?
