FRANCES FAYE (1912-1991) adored Sydney, and Sydney adored her. The legendary nightclub entertainer made around 14 visits Down Under between 1961 and 1979, packing out legendary clubs like Chequers and the Silver Spade. Here she is on Sydney TV on her last Australian visit - she had suffered a heart attack in 1978 and was visibly ready for retirement, which came in 1980 - but her delightful spirit is still there as she sings her signature tune SHIMMY LIKE MY SISTER KATE.

    a sensational performer. Saw her then - but it was 1979 (not '78) as the MWS set tells the era year on year - and it's the year when I met her - on that show. Thanks for posting.
