Rather clever to blind their food sources. Keep the humans from leaving, and they can't really witness anything. The feedings probably keep them dazed and docile, too.

But yeah, probably better off dead. They know too much, and are probably too traumatized by their stay at the Sabbat Inn.

Actually, what the shotgun fires is not like acid...

Rather, it's a highly volatile chemical mixture that can burn at over (depending on the variety) 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit once exposed to oxygen, like the oxygen a human breathes in (or a vampire is surrounded by). Oh, and it does not go out if you put water on it or try to pat it out, if anything it just makes it worse. It's described as a worse thing to get on you than napalm.

And it's totally going to ruin some flesh-shaper's day.
