In effect, the inability to process/digest properly causes the dog to have toxins sent throughout their blood stream, the air licking is basically the toxins in your dog's brain making him/her act funny. Don't mean to scare you -this is all treatable, my dog Chewy (a lhasapoo) has/had this issue. He had a liver shunt, and had to have surgery to fix and he's now 100%. Def get your little angel checked out, just to be sure! Good Luck & God Bless!

Air licking is often related to liver malfunction - seizures, liver shunt or MVD - def should get your dogs bloodwork checked out - make sure liver enzymes are normal. Also get a BAT test (Bile Acid Test) - a blood test where they take a fasting blood, then feed your dog, wait two hours, then take blood again. It will indicate if there are liver issues. Very important because if your dog has liver issues you need to stop feeding ALL meat protein completely - their livers can't digest/process

My dog does the same exact thing. I was wondering if you ever found out the cause of this "licking" thing? I've been trying to find an answer to this for months with little help...even from the vet. Any input would be appreciated. Please mail me if you know anything more. Thanks.
have your dogs checked for focal seizures this is what this looks like
