the problem I have with improv is that I end up just repeating the same ideas over and over, even across different backing tracks. the problem is obviously that I'm not seemingly able to come up with fresh new note combos/ideas, and it annoys me because i can feel the groove, but it's just not coming across in my playing. any tips on expanding your improv "vocabulary"?

@MapleLeafAce I can relate! The key is to strengthen the relationship between what you hear and what you play. Force yourself to listen to the track with no guitar in your hand and improvise with your voice.
Once you have an idea you like, reproduce it on your instrument. The more you do itm the fastr it will be. Eventually your ideas will be generated from your head, and not from your guitar which seems to be your current problem...

Your just like a guitar teacher I had once.
He could play beautiful fusion stuff just like that all day long.
