To me, "rex tremendae" and "dies irae" are the best tunes ever writen. Both rex and lacrimosa performances, the tempos should be faster. Rex: "King of tremendous majesty.You freely save those worthy of salvation..Save me, fount of pity."

I think that a slower tempo is more majestic, more imposing and impressive. In few words: definitely suitable for a "King of tremendous majesty" who is also "fount of pity", as you correctly said.
