Episode 27 - Mayoral Concert - "The Prayer"

Yulia performs THE PRAYER with the Wellington Salvation Army Brass Band at the Mayoral Concert, 2008, Michael Fowler Centre, Wellington.

NB: Yulia suffered food poisoning and was quite ill during the concert and had to cut her first set short. Despite offers to take time out for medical reasons, in typical stoic Russian fashion, Yulia demanded to go back out on stage. She was able to hit a sustained high G on HOW GREAT THOU ART despite being ill, which we think is quite extraordinary. (Video also on You Tube)

THE PRAYER was performed immediately after Yulia had been quite ill back stage. We've uploaded this video to demonstrate the fortitude and personal commitment Yulia has to support communities and charity and to pursue her passion for singing regardless of the pain. The Salvation Army band didn't find out until the next day.

Yulia also adapted the lead melodies for THE PRAYER in real time and improvised the melody to lower harmonies to compensate for being sick. In 20 years of show business I have never seen anyone as ill as Yulia was that day get up on stage and perform.

Another point to note is that Yulia had only one rehearsal of this new arrangement of THE PRAYER and this is the first time Yulia has ever performed with a Brass Band.

Singers can come and go and complain about all kinds of minor discomfort. Yulia however is proving concert by concert that she is a talent that is here to stay. This is a singer who is passionate about people, who is living for giving and who cares about fulfilling her promises and her vision.
