January 2011...This is a customers' boat from Louisiana that was having all sorts of issues with his MPI (Multi Port Injection) and was spending a ton of money trying to get it sorted out. He called me and I told him that I am NOT a MPI/EFI guy and that if I pulled the MPI off his motors and replaced it with intake manifolds, Holley carburators, and a complete MSD ignition system...his problems would all be history. He thought about it and invested some more money into getting the MPI system repaired, but the motors were still wounded. He called me asking for directions and brought the boat to me. I pulled the MPI stuff off and replaced it with carbs and you can see in the video that this bone stock Baja Boss 302 with 454 mags is running great...turning slightly over 5000 rpm and running like a scalded cat. This work was done in January 2011 and Paul has been out in the boat a few times already and is a very happy boater. He will have a 2011 season of good times in his boat. I do NOT do MPI/EFI...hate it! Something to think on...water and electronics do NOT play well together.. If you are having issues with your MPI/EFI system...my suggestion is to contact me and I will replace it with a carb and your problems and expenses will be over. You can then go out and enjoy your boat. Visit my web site and contact me if your boat is having issues. I am very reasonable... http://www.MotorsbyShooter.com

  • Do you ever have issues with cold starts with the carbs? And miss fire or back fire on fast take off? I get what ur saying with the water and electronics, there are pros and cons for carbs as well. Just sayin.

  • @laundert No issues at all. Give it 2 to 4 pumps with the throttle...hit the key and the motors fire right up. I dont get any back fires, coughin or sputterin. If you ever start to have issues with EFI/MPI...you are going to spen a small fortune chasing it down...far more money than if you just pull it off and replace it with the old school carb. You will make more power with a carb too. If you have issues on a carb motor...you dont have a lot of crap to check. Your issue is usually spark or gas

  • Not too bad. I'll be buying a baja in the next couple of months, not sure if i want a single or twin 454 and if theres much difference. Either way if i have trouble with the mpi i'll switch to carbs as well, nice video!!

  • @Fortworthman999 Thanks. This boat was a sled when they brought it to me, but it is running strong now. 454 motors are ok, but nothing to write home about. Look for a boat with a 502 in it and you will be light years ahead or if you really want the 454...make sure that it is a "mag" motor. Mag motors have forged internal parts. The 7.4 (454) motor is a modified truck motor for a marine application. It has all "cast" internal parts...avoid this motor if you can.

  • @Fortworthman999 I am seriously considering selling my Baja. I have video of it on my motor web site and also on YOU TUBE. Do a search on GOOGLE and a search on YOU TUBE using my name...MotorsbyShooter...and my stuff will come up.There is nothing wrong with the boat...I just want to go bigger. Boat has twin 502's.

  • That looked like a 10-15 gallons of fuel test drive

  • @mrdallasman999 not quiet...maybe 10 at the very most, but probably closer to 8 gallons. The boat is a screamer now compared to what it was doing with the MPI stuff on it. The thing wouldnt run 50...even if it was going down hill, but with the carbs on it...the thing hauls for basically stock motors.

  • Thank you. I have replaced manp MPI motors with carbs and everyone has been very happy. If your MPI system is working and not giving you grief...then by all means...use it until it does start to give you problems. Once the problems start with a MPI system, it is going to nickel and dime you to death and you will not be using your boat. Call or bring it to me and I will fix it so that you can go out and enjoy it.

  • nice
