  • i wonder if its a bad thing im completely desensitized to some one being close to me 0.o really to me it doesnt really matter how close some one is to me, as long as they're not trying to hurt me

  • LOL @ milkshake guy 2:40

  • @heracles04 For me, BJJ is about escaping. If the guy has a knife and, tries to stab me, that's different than a guy trying to punch me., or elbow me in the face. The fear of an unarmed attacker would be much less with a person used to quickly getting out from pins and, mounts. When wrestlers take me down (less and, less, due to Judo training) I fall to my side and, start moving and, most importantly, breathing. Move and, breath and, escape. Use eye gouges and, such together.

  • @heracles04 Exactly. But if your opponent is on top of you, punching you, the BJJ way is an easy way to reverse the situation with your opponent not being so aware. And, they are no too complicated for a person under stress, since they are perfected under stress. BJJ guys, even the sport oriented, are always drilling and, training with a resisting opponent. They do that with the full weight of the opponent on them. That doesn't intimidate them, they can do the moves without thinking.

  • @heracles04 Not at all. The longer he stays on the ground, the more time his attacker can shoot him, or plunge a knife into him, no matter if the his buddies are around. The idea also isn't to take the opponent top the ground to fight him, but to escape from the head lock, or other attacks. If we land and, I'm on top, it's much easier to get up and, get out.

  • "Why is the freak getting close to me?... This is a very uncomfortable distance." I like Stephan's approach to talking about things.

  • @MrPotatoesLatkie BJJ is great when the attacker has you close to him. I don't think much of it's offensive attacks, but as a non-lethal self-defense, it's fantastic. And, there is nothing from stopping a BJJ guy using dirty tactics on you.

I've also got to roll with older, Brazilian black belts, the type with cauliflower ears. Their skills are quite scary. Being in an arm bar that's on so tight before they even execute the move, or the crushing ability they have when they are examples.

  • @heracles04 I'll bet that the majority of fights, or attacks are not of the violent, life and, limb threatening kind, but standard fights out of anger. And, strikes to the eyes and, testicles? You can do the same? And, those hands coming at you aren't that difficult to intercept with your hands.

What BJJ gives you are ways to escape the various mount positions, headlocks, chokes, arm locks, etc. The US Military has included BJJ training and, the results from soldiers are quite positive.

  • I'm a claustrophobic and just started MMA . I'm a former kickboxer and have good stand-up but one session of ground about wore out my nerve. I'm going to just keep putting myself in there as best I can and hope I start feeling confident down there.
