In response to Sacramento Councilwoman Sandy Sheedy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHsX7STHqNg

I was unaware that you could be shot by an unloaded gun, so I decided to test this hypothesis. I may do more testing if the Federal Government comes through with several billion dollars for me so I can hire minions, do more research, buy guns, and keep pulling the trigger to see if any of the unloaded guns will fire. I would also like to determine if geographical location or elevation affect a gun's ability to shoot someone when unloaded. A good testing location would be Sacramento, CA.

If anyone wishes to volunteer their gun for study, let me know. You can accompany it for testing; I won't go all New-Orleans-after-Katrina on you and forcefully take it away without a receipt or anything, never to give it back.

Guns tested in this experiment:

  • i think the most important question here is WHY did you draw that innocent human being as ORANGE!? Do you have something against people with ORANGE skin????? ಠ_ಠ

  • @PrkchpsNaplsaws I drew myself. I DO NOT LOOK LIKE AN ORANGE! Oranges don't have bodies, legs, arms, or spiky hair.

  • ...to ensure it was unloaded. If it's an automatic.. and someone hands it to you closed.. remove the magazine and open it.. lock it back. EVEN IF you JUST saw him check it.

Revolver.. open it.. and look. EVEN IF you just saw him check it.

What she said was more or less valid from a gun handling point of view.. but it was said by a dimwitted politician that had no actual experience and did not relate the rest of the reasoning.

    I am ex-Coast Guard.. and I had a boarding officer blow a hole ...

  • @PaleHearse What she said is not valid from any point of view.

  • ...in the bottom of my boat with an unloaded gun... so this does happen.

The term, as used here means that the person believed the gun to be unloaded. Your "scientific method".. does not apply when your talking about human psychology.

Walking out the door with a weapon on your hip that is supposed to be unloaded, and that you THINK is unloaded does NOT guarantee.. that it actually is.. unloaded.

Shit happens to folks when they get rushed and are forced to do things in distracting environments.

  • @PaleHearse My scientific method applies perfectly to what she said. Who knows what she actually meant. My test dealt with reality, not psychology.

Who would be silly enough to walk out the door with an unloaded gun on their hip, anyway? Your point is moot.

  • welcome to Sheedy-wok may i take your rights preeeze?

  • @PaleHearse That's a terrible quote. As I've stated before, I don't believe in accidental shootings. It takes several distinct steps to fire a gun (for now, I'm focusing on most semi-autos): 1) put rounds in a magazine, 2) put loaded magazine in gun, 3) rack gun to put a round in the chamber, 4) get your finger inside the trigger guard, and 5), squeeze the trigger. The quote should be: "Every negligent shooting is done by a gun that someone loaded and failed to handle correctly."

  • Yeah. that woman doesn't live in reality. Probably promotes sodium flouride too.

  • I'm thinking about watering my lawn tomorrow...by leaving the spigot off. Just point the dry, empty hose at the grass.

(Hey, don't laugh...if it works, look at the all the money I'll save in water bills.)

  • every gun should be treated as if it is loaded but that is not what she said so an unloaded gun cannot shoot someone .Guns are not the problem stupid people are.

  • You have to be in California for unloaded guns to fire, everyone knows that.

"Who would be silly enough to walk out the door with an unloaded gun on their hip, anyway? Your point is moot."~

In California.. it was not a moot point at all. Until recently, the only way one could carry was open.. and unloaded. People did that to show how stupid it was.. basically. Not something I would do.. but I did avail myself of the opportunity to carry openly during "cowboy" days at local events since I had a six shooter.

    Because of that, her point...

  • @ghotioutofh2o

.. was wholly valid. Someone may be carrying openly thinking that their weapon was unloaded when it was not. It's that simple.

Because your "scientific" study of this left out the human element.. it didn't cover the actual reason that quote is used when teaching gun handling. Your young yet..I expect as you get a bit more experience you'll eventually come to discover this for yourself.

Either way...know that we are both on the same side of the gun handling issue.

  • @ghotioutofh2o

If you think it's a stupid quote then you probably have to give it some time to sink in.

I thought it was a stupid quote as well until I saw it happen right in front of me.

If you attempt to leave out the human element.. your missing the point of the quote.

What made it "stupid" in the case of the representative.. was that she had no experience to adequately explain what actually goes on.

    She was just parroting.

The quote serves it's purpose in that it is memorable.
