Another demonstration of the Atom Netbook platform doubling as a compact, portable music studio. As long as you don't overdo the heavy DSP effects (Reverb, Granular Synthesis, etc) it will do quite nicely. In this demo, Reason 4 is acting as a big rack full of virtual outboard gear, and the modules are being triggered via MIDI by the sequencer in the Ensoniq TS-10 under the Axiom. The AA1 happens to be sitting on a rack full of physical gear so you can see the obvious benefit of a small virtual studio running inside the Netbook. The song is another quick sequence I threw together for this demo. Yes it sounds like prog rock meets MOD file meets keygen. Next time I'll do a Lawrence Welk cover.

  • k dude why are you using reason? isnt logic easier?

  • See my other video :)

  • What was your RAM,HardDrive space, and Graphics card on the Acer....and for that matter, was there any lag when using Reason 4??

Did you install Reason through a disk drive on an external torrent

  • I used all 120GB for OS X. The integrated graphics is a standard GMA950 that works fine. What you're seeing is stock 1GB RAM but I've since upgraded to the maximum 1.5GB. There's no real lag when working in Reason. The problem is that the CPU is quickly taxed with just a few effects, especially reverb, after which it starts stuttering. I installed Reason from a compressed disk DMG file.

  • DId you have other programs on the netbook other than Reason?....and the issue of price?

  • I also have iLife08 (Garage Band, etc) and Logic on that machine as you can see on the other video. I don't think I've found anything that won't run. Not sure what you mean by issue of price? You can get an AA1 for about $300 with 160GB drive. If you mean price of the audio software, check any music store like Sweetwater or Musician's Friend.

  • By the way if you don't like the built-in audio you can get a USB pro-audio interface like the M-Audio FastTrack Pro, which I've also used with this netbook. It's fantastic and gives you pre-amp inputs and very clean output.

  • What Install Disc did you use? And did it take too many post-OSX installs, like many more drivers and stuff?

  • Hi, is this a known song or you wrote it for this video? I was interested in hackintosh on Acer One but now I cannot stop listening to this music, I am completely addicted!

  • sounds like video game music :)

  • Acer's are made by Asus their low end computers, but still have some similar specs... The best and easy way to install retail version of Snow Leopard on these computers/laptops is by using " Pirate EFI-X " bootloader. This is the best bootloader that I used to install a legit copy of Snow Leopard. No more moded distros of Mac OS X... Empire EFI and Rebel EFI work as well but my favorite is 'Pirate EFI - X' bootloader!

  • what are your specs on that netbook because im thinking about trying to run some music production software on the Acer NetBook i just bought?

  • CAN SOMEONE HELP E PLEASE..... WHEN I BOOT INTO CD... IT WONT PASS THE WHITE SCREEN WITH THE APPLE SIGN IN IT... CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE.. I DONT KNOW WHAN IM DOING WRONG... MY EMAIL IS ANTONIO52594@LIVE.COM...

  • whoa, *awesome* track dude, sick synth lead!! I'm thinking of getting a netbook hackintosh do do live PA sets with Reason 4 and an Axiom 25, this is super inspiring : )

  • i think with an external audio card and asio drivers there should be no problems. on my netbook (aspire one 532) i can even use the internal card with asio4all with barely no latency

  • does it have latency using a good audio card? I have a acer aspire one with 160 gb and 1 gb DDR2, running windows xp. I have a midi keyboard too. Can I play live using this machine? THANK YOU!!!!
