    The 7.62x39 Round in an SKS is similar for hunting (in my opinion) to something like a 30-30. Without modifications the SKS only has iron sights, that coupled with the round, limits you to about 200 yards or so. I would recommend buying one just for fun, the price to shoot it is tough to beat. Cheers

    sks 7.62 x 39 one of the best for deer season its a good 100 yrd shooter the sks is also nice and short for going tru brush. as for killing game this depends on how good a marksmen you are !  good hunting and best wishes harold
