"GO, MY SON"

(Composer Unknown - - - To Me)

SPOKEN:
"Long ago, a warrior chief counselled his people.
He wisely told them,
'Education is a ladder
Which leads to happiness.
Go, and climb that ladder.'"

SING:
Go, my son.
Go and climb the ladder.
Go, my son.
Grow and earn your feather.
Go, my son.
Make your people
Proud of you!

Work, my son.
Get an education.
Work, my son.
Learn a good vocation.
Climb, my son.
Go and take a lofty view.

From on the ladder
Of an education,
You can see
To help your Indian nation.
Reach, my son,
And lift your people
Up with you.

  • I had to sing this song in music class today and I was very interested in learning the song by heart. I searched YouTube for a Go my son song lyrics. Instead, I found a wonderful singer. You! I am practicing on learning this song on the violin. I am learning how to play a guitar. I know how to play violin, viola, piano, and flute. :)

  • @mutt3135

    Thank you.

  • I remember this song from elementary school. I'm in a Facebook group that includes people from my hometown and the surrounding area. One of the other members of the group is the cousin of the girl who co-wrote the song, whose name is Arlene Nofchissey Williams. The song was co-written by Carson Burnes (or Burson, not sure which). Both of them were students at BYU when they wrote the song. Arlene still performs. Great job of singing and performing, BTW. :)
