Live At The Birchmere

Freeborn Man

(I) I was born in the southland,
Twenty some odd years ago.
I ran away for the first time,
When I was four years old.

Chorus:
I'm a freeborn (IV) man,
My home is on my (I) back.
I know (V) every inch of highway,
Every foot of back road,
Every mile of railroad (I) track.

Well I got me a Martin Guitar,
And I carry an old tote sack.
Well I hocked it about two hundred times,
But I always get it back.

Well you may not like my appearance,
And you may not like my song.
Well you may not like the way I walk,
But you like the way I'm gone;

Well I was born in the southland,
Twenty some odd years ago.
Well I ran away for the first time,
When I was four years old.

Extra verse:
Got a gal in Cincinnati
Got a woman in San Antone
Said I always loved the girl next door
But anyplace is home;

Dan Tyminski - Guitar
Ron Stewart - Banjo
Adam Steffey - Mandolin
Barry Bales - Bass
Justin Moses - Fiddle

Too many beers. I'm a fumble fingered idiot.

This is the way it should chart.

    Keep em coming!

  • Thanks, think I got it now...

  • All the versions are good when they're played by guys as talented as Tony Rice or Dan Tyminski.

  • He can OUT SING Tony...I am talking about Tony in his prime..but as far as guitar playing..there is only one Tony Rice...

  • @SteveGaine

No he can't. Tony in his prime was in a whole different league. His singing and his guitarplay.

  • Where can we here this "Fretkillr"?? If he is that good, he should be playing somewhere besides his kitchen.. Where??

  • OK cool, I didn't know that. I always thought Jimmy wrote it and still think he did it the best. God bless you hoofoot.

  • This was written by Mark Lindsay and Keith Allison of Paul Revere and the Raiders. It has become a true bluegrass classic and has been credited to many others. The original appears on the Raiders Alias Pink Puzz album. Check it out.

  • There's a lot of armchair quitar/quaterbacking that goes on here isn't there?

  • And no, Dan Tyminski is NOT Fretkillr on youtube. Dan is awesum and I would never take anything from him but that dude on here that calls himself Fretkillr is way better of a guitar player by far. much cleaner , faster and elaborate.

    sorry Dan.

  • Is Dan Tyminski "Fretkiller?"

  • My ass was kicked and then my name was taken.

  • this is true americana,sounds awesome,love it
