Just a short walkthrough of my Ubuntu 8.04 installation.

to get ubuntu go to www.ubuntu.com

to get the visual effects you need compiz which comes as standard with ubuntu, but to tweak it (and turn on some of the effects i have here) you need the Advanced Desktop Effects Settings, which is available under applications-add/remove and then search for compiz and u should get it.

  • how did you do the thing at 0:37 when you were switching between different windows and they were all small and in a circle

  • ok sorry it took me so long but the steps are as follows:

*make sure you have extra enabled in system->preferences->appearance->visual effects

*then bring up the settings manager->effects->animations

*select where u want the effect eg close, minimise

*in animation selection click edit and pick which one u want and how long u want it for (u can tweak this a bit)

*in window match click the + beside it then click grab

*then single click on the top of the window u are in and click add

  • hmm, i shall investigate later today (i'm in work)

  • You need to install the compizconfig settings manager (search in Synaptic Package Manager for it), which will appear in your System->Preferences menu as "Advanced Desktop Effects Settings".

Click "Animations" from there, and select "Burn" as the Close Animation.
