David Bowie recorded a version of the song in 1993 for his album Black Tie White Noise. Bowie remarked that he was introduced to Scott Walker's when he dated one of Walker's ex-girlfriends. Reportedly, she enjoyed Walker's music more than Bowie's, and played Walker's albums constantly. NITE FLIGHTS There's no hold
The moving has come through
The danger brushing you
Turns its face into the heat
And runs the tunnels

It's so cold
The dark dug up by dogs
The stitches torn and broke
The raw meat fist you choke
Has hit the bloodlite

Glass traps open and close on nite flights
Broken necks
Feather weights press the walls
Be my love
We will be gods on nite flights
Only one promise
Only one way to fall

Glass traps open and close on nite flights
Broken necks
Feather weights press the walls
Be my love
We will be gods on nite flights
Only one promise
Only one way to fall

On the nite flights
On the nite flights
On the nite flights
Only one way to fall

On the nite flights
On the nite flights
On the nite flights
Only one way to fall

  • About 30 years ahead of its time.

  • I still think that Bowie was influenced by Scott Walker and many have missed this point. Throw in a bit of Roxy Music / Eno for good measure too. But this track is from 1978- and after Low & Heroes. Vocally Bowie did change his singing style mid to late 1970's and the influence was for me Walker. Musically here though, I think the Bowie / Eno/ Visconti sound had an effect on Walker's career. This track is so derivative of the track Heroes imo that cross pollination is so obviously evident..

  • @200405InVision quite correct!!!

  • i really like the drums on this

  • @maruthamarutha 'cosmo-melancholic' - that's a beautiful turn of phrase...

  • @200405InVision Fair enough, but obviously you know how much effect Neu! and Harmonia had upon the 'Berlin sound' of Bowie/Eno/Visconti. The pollination is coming at all angles!

  • fucking hell, i love scott walker.

  • I think Bowie found something here that was commercially exploitable and did so. While Walkers genius is work is of the "high Art" caliber, Bowies genius is that of translating for the common man. Walker is an artist that dimensionally sculpts in sound and words, his work is transcendent, it cannot be explained only experienced. In a culture where most everything is spoon fed, most of his work is just beyond commonality. I know this though. "Like all our highest aspirations it will last as long

  • @thebadger13 i concur

  • Easy one for Bowie to cover, he sounds a lot like him

  • Bowie doesn't touch this........

  • Chorus is almost close to perfection.

    Such an influential song.
