  • I was told that one corner of the End Zone went into the Dugout at Wrigley Field. Was that true ?

  • I think so. Somewhere I have a figure showing the layout of the field relative to stands. I'll look for it...

  • No, unfortunately my father didn't take his 8mm camera due to rain that day.

  • @popeme1970 - The dugout itself was blocked with padding. The sideline and endline of the endzone followed the contour of the dugout's edge so that the corner of that particular endzone kind of looked like a backward Z. In the extreme corner probably 2-3 yards was cut off of the normal 10 yard endzone.

  • @MegaObserver1 Thank you Mega and AC . I just assumed Soldier Field was always a football venue.

  • @chasebizzy Soldier Field, prior to 1971, was a motor racing venue used primarily for ARCA-sanctioned stock car races, although one NASCAR-sanctioned stock car race was held in 1956, which was won by Glenn "Fireball" Roberts.

  • @chasebizzy Prior to 1970, Soldier Field wasn't really set up for football. That stands were far, far away from the field. There was enough interior room to put 1 1/2 football fields. Also, since it was owned by the Chicago Park District, alcohol was not allowed, therefore depriving the Bears of a big source of revenue. In 1970, the city had the stadium renovated so the stands were closer to the field. And a special law was passed allowing beer sales.

  • I like the old NFL jerseys, no names on them!

  • If you saw Northwestern vs. Illinois at Wrigley they had the field in a East/West configuration. When the Bears used to play at Wrigley the field was designed in a North/South configuration with temporary seats that ran from center to right field.

  • This game was played on Halloween 1965. The Bears beat the Packers 31-10 and was the first team to beat the 6-0 Packers. Lombardi said after the game that he was glad he didn't have to play the Bears again (the Packers beat them earlier despite being outgained). This was also when the Colts were the Packers main rivals for the conference. The Bears would help GB get in reach of the leaders by beating the Colts in Balt. in week 12. GB would end up tied with Balt. at year end setting up a playoff.

  • @DaBigMotor I had thought the Bears had moved to Soldier Field back in the early 1960's!

  • @jp5211: INCORRECT.

The Bears final game @ Wrigley was December 13, 1970 vs Green Bay.
