A large, bowl shaped kind of drum. They were used in the military and from the 18th century are also used in orchestras. Look up "timpani drums" here on youtube.

I was just being honest in what I heard. The melody in which he sings sounds like the melody in the vox of Whiplash. Sorry. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I call what I hear.
