WOUB-TV announced the 2009 Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest local winning stories. 178 children from kindergarten through the third grade in more than 30 counties participated. The contest was open for entries from January to March 2009. Guidelines for the contest instructed children to write and illustrate their own story. Illustrators, publishers, and educators from surrounding areas judged the entrants and first place in each grade level were sent on to be judged at the National level.
All entrants received a book donated by WOUB and a "Reading Rainbow" certificate of achievement signed by Reading Rainbow host, LeVar Burton. The 2010 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest is underway!
