Today, nearly 1 in 3 children in America are overweight or obese. Over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates in America have tripled. First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Initiative has an ambitious, but important goal: to solve the epidemic of childhood obesity within a generation. Three research-based efforts have been developed in support of this initiative. The "Mom Was Here" campaign celebrates inventive moms who find creative ways to keep their families healthy, while the "On The Daily" campaign uses a memorable, original song to offer audiences fun daily tips and activities. Similarly, the Spanish-language PSAs "T-shirts" pair dynamic visuals with simple tips to educate parents on the importance of learning their child's body mass index (BMI) and show that incorporating small changes can make a major impact in their child's health. Other available Let's Move! PSAs feature Disney's well-known Beauty and the Beast characters that encourage kids to "discover the magic and beauty of healthy living." Similarly, PSAs developed in conjunction with campaign partners, Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association, feature First Lady Michelle Obama with players from around the league encouraging parents and children to "eat healthy so they can play an hour a day, every day." All PSAs directs parents and their families to www.LetsMove.gov where they can find helpful information on healthy eating and physical activity.
