Brian Ferneyhough's major work for solo flute in three movements, Unity Capsule, which is actually more difficult than Cassandra's Dreamsong in my opinion.

  • I just got the sheet music for this. I congratulate anyone who has the ability to read this.

  • Extreme complexity!

On the paper of the score there is more black than white!!

  • The only reason for this being so complexly written down is that Ferneyhough is creating a dreamlike atmosphere and does not want the player to play this too regularly nor resort to the cliché's of rubato

  • @mickyj300x I can sight read it. hehehhehehe. maybe.........

    (no way :P)

  • In Robert Dick's liner notes to "Ladder of Escape", he kinda rips on ferneyhough a bit.

I have no idea why...I freaking love his pieces for flute!!

  • This is an unique great record.

  • I greatly admire Ferneyhough's work, and this piece is beyond belief. I'm not a musician, though, so the difficulty factor really doesn't add much to my appreciation of any piece. You, on the other hand, seem to be keen on that aspect of contemporary music. Would you care to elaborate a little? I'm just curious.

    Thanks for posting!
