WRAL-TV 5 News (Good Friday 1991)

In Spring 1991, WRAL opted to update their opens and graphics package. This hideously ugly experiment was one of the worst produced opens ever for the Big 5. The package includes an awful new voice talent for the opens, as well as dropping the word "News" from the signature News Logo at the open. How ridiculous. Fortunately for us all, this horrible experiment (featuring a repackage of the 1988 "WRAL-TV News" open) only lasted from Spring 1991-Summer 1993. It was in '93 WRAL updated their logo to the current version of the blue and white "5" and returned the word "NEWS" to the logo standard.

Hate to burst your bubble, however, Adele most certainly did leave in November 1988 -- the day AFTER the North Raleigh tornado killed four people and destroyed countless businesses and homes. She was originally supposed to leave the day of the tornado, but was asked to stay on an extra day because of the extensive coverage of the disaster.

does anyone remember the segment called "Wednesday's child", it use to be on at lunch time I think on WRAL at noon, probably the mid to late 80's.

Actually, it was originally something Adele Arakawa did. Donna Gregory carried on the torch in 1988 after Adele's Departure. The segment eventually morphed into something Pam Saulsby took over after she joined the Six O'Clock News Team in 1991. Finally, the segment was dropped all together in the early to mid 90s.
