The Rowland-cycle fuel injected meat grinder. It's a 2-stroke, non-compressing engine. (a lot of junk pile parts & scrap brass went into this) Shown in the video running off compressed air, the last time it ran off gasoline was in the mid '90`s...& it actually ran pretty good. Designed in 7th & 8th & built in 8th & 9th grade, my machining was a little crude so I don't run it much anymore. A glass fuel tank sits under the crankcase at the back & there's a belt drive governor (in the glass tube) right behind the flywheel that throttles the air.

  • nice what sort of tools do yuo use to machine your engines?

  • I was a kid when this was machined so the main machines my dad had in his shop at the time was a small (10") Sheldon lathe & old (1900) Jackson vertical mill. Also used a drill press, files ect.

  • That's one cool engine! Is it 4 stroke or 2 stroke? Also, can't tell where the power piston is? Does it us poppet valves? Again, nice work! Chuck

  • Hi Chuck, it's a 2 stroke. The piston is inside the vertical cylinder (that's hard to see) in the top opening of the meat grinder. You can pour water in the opening & around the cylinder to keep it cool but the only thing that ever got hot was the top chamber. It originally had 3 flat-faced poppet valves (my first attempt at making a valve) but soon replaced them with regular tapered ones that seated a lot better. I have a pretty big bag of extra parts
