This is a very neat video! I like the idea of kids having to be in at least one club. Keeps them active and out of trouble. =) I wish they did that back here in the states. I'm in Texas so I don't really know how other states are about sports but we do about the same amount of work the kids do at your school. =) I've graduated but in high school soccer we practiced Mon-Fri during our school period a little more than a hr. & then after school as well for at least 2-3hrs.

Like I said, I went to an international school so we weren't required to have school clubs but I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

Wow! Mandatory club. Then Saturday meetings too. Does that apply to the younger children as well? I figured that might be overloading the younger kids.

Having lived in Japan for 12 years I can vouch for the club rules. The same rules do apply to every school whether they are public or private. Juku (cram school) plus club time means many students don't get home until late at night. It all culminates to the national college entrance exam where your score and name is displayed on a big screen. It's a wonder they all survive from day to day. Makes me glad I was in an international school instead.

I'm only getting the 'teacher's eye view' of all this. I'd be interested in hearing what somebody a bit closer to the action would have to say about it!

I don't know if they're the same rules at every school in Japan. But all the other JET teachers I've talked to have told the same story.
And yeah, every student HAS to be in a club.
The students' lives are REALLY highly structured. I didn't even mention the extra hours of 'cram school' that most of them attend after they're done with regular school.
